Patricia Rengifo
Patricia Rengifo was born in Yarinacocha, Colonel Portillo Ucayali in 2000. She is the daughter of Robert Rengifo (Chono Meni), a pioneer of contemporary Peruvian Indigenous painting, and the artisan Laura Rengifo Vásquez, both from the Shipibo Konibo people. She was raised by her grandfather, a master healer, and her grandmother, an experienced ceramist, in the Nuevo San Juan community. She learned to paint by helping her father, whose works were inspired by the Shipibo Konibo stories, legends and myths of the Amazon. At the age of 13 she began to produce works individually. In 2019, after the death of her father, she began a process of recovering his works. In 2022, she participated in the group exhibition “I can walk, I can fly, contemporary Amazonian artists and the defense of Good Living”, organized by the Amazon Center for Anthropology and Practical Application of the Metropolitan Museum of the Municipality of Lima. She exhibited in the group exhibitions “Back to the origins” at the Martin Yépez Gallery and “Rivers can exist without water but not without banks” at the MAC-Lima. In 2023, she participated in the exhibition “The canoe melodies from the river.” She was part of the exhibition “Indigenous Stories” at the Sao Paulo Museum of Art (2024).
