The Centre for Social Studies, through its project ECO: Animals and Plants in Cultural Productions about the Amazon River Basin, funded by the European Research Council of the European Commission (ERC-EC), does not hold copyright of the works presented in the online group exhibition “Politics and Poetics of the Forest: Indigenous Ontologies in Contemporary Amazonian Arts”. The online exhibition is curated by Maria Eugenia Yillia Miranda, in collaboration with the ECO project’s Principal Investigator, Patrícia Vieira, and the project’s junior researcher, Elena Galvéz. 

The Centre for Social Studies established an agreement with the curated artists in this exhibition to acquire rights to display the images exhibited, upon payment of copyright and intellectual property rights. 

Considering the provisions of subparagraphs e), f) and o) of paragraph 2 of Article 75 of the Code of Copyright and Related Rights, the use of the works is not intended to gain any direct or indirect economic or commercial advantage, being restricted to teaching, research and cultural and scientific dissemination purposes. Consequently, the lawfulness of further use of the works by visitors of the online exhibition will depend on their compliance with the above-mentioned rules.

 

Terms of use

By visiting the exhibition “Politics and Poetics of the Forest: Indigenous Ontologies in Contemporary Amazonian Arts”, the visitor declares having read, understood and accepted the Terms of Use described below, without the need for any further act or consent.

 

  1. Content of the online group exhibition “Politics and Poetics of the Forest: Indigenous Ontologies in Contemporary Amazonian Arts”

The content of the exhibition “Politics and Poetics of the Forest: Indigenous Ontologies in Contemporary Amazonian Arts”, is understood as all the information made available to the website’s visitors, namely texts, images, photo galleries, videos, audios or music.

All contents are protected by copyright under Portuguese legislation, European Union legislation and applicable international treaties.

The use that the Centre for Social Studies makes of these works does not aim to gain any direct or indirect economic or commercial advantage, being restricted to the purposes of teaching, research and cultural and scientific dissemination. The use of the aforementioned works by visitors to the exhibition constitutes a new and autonomous use of those works, in addition to the one made by the Centre for Social Studies, and should be restricted to the purposes for which they were included in the exhibition and with limited dissemination, as stipulated in the Commons license CC BY-NC-ND (Attribution-No Derivatives-No Derivatives) that protects the works.

The Centre for Social Studies is not responsible for the use of the works that visitors may make of them in breach of the terms of free use set out in Article 75, paragraph 2, of the Code of Copyright and Related Rights (or of the corresponding rules of European or international law). The works displayed in the exhibition “Politics and Poetics of the Forest: Indigenous Ontologies in Contemporary Amazonian Arts”, cannot be used outside the conditions of free use allowed by law, without the express and written consent of the respective copyright owners.

 

  1. Use

By viewing the online exhibition presented on this website, visitors agree and declare that they are aware that they:

  • Shall not do anything that may harm the Centre for Social Studies, the curators and the artists exhibited, namely disrespecting the terms of free use of the works protected by copyright, and shall limit their use to non-economic or commercial purposes, restricting it to research, study or leisure purposes;
  • Shall not evaluate or test the security or possible vulnerability of the system or hack installed security.

 

  1. Interruption or suspension of access

The Centre for Social Studies reserves the right to block access to the website as deemed necessary in the case of unauthorised use of works by visitors, or for any technical, administrative, force majeure or other reasons that may arise and are not directly contemplated herein.
