https://ecoexpo.ces.uc.pt/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/abel.jpg325325Abel Rodríguez Mogaje Guihu, nascido em Cahuinari, Putumayo, em 1941, é um sábio do povo Nonuya que possui conhecimento sobre as plantas medicinais e os sistemas ecológicos da bacia amazónica. Nos anos 90, fugindo do conflito armado colombiano, a família do artista abandonou La Chorrera, o seu território natal. Para preservar o seu legado, Rodríguez começou a desenhar os seus conhecimentos, procurando transmitir a sua cosmovisão, não só da floresta, mas também da condição humana. Depois da primeira mostra das suas obras na exposição “Historia natural y política” no Museu Botero de Bogotá em 2008, a sua obra tem formado parte de numerosas exposições na América e na Europa. Em 2020, Mogaje Guihu apresentou a sua primeira exposição individual na Europa, “Abel Rodríguez” no BALTIC Centre for Contemporart Art de Newcastle, Reino Unido. Entre as exposições coletivas em que participou contam-se: “Among the trees,” na Hayward Gallery, Southbank Centre, Londres (2020); a Bienal de Arte de Toronto (2019); Carnegie Internacional (2018); “Water weavers: The River in Contemporary Colombian Visual and Material Culture,” Bard Graduate Center Gallery, Nova York (2014) e Documenta 14, Kassel (2014). Em 2014, Mogaje Guihu recebeu o prémio Prince Claus Principal Laureate Award pelo seu trabalho como botânico, pela sua obra de arte e pelo seu conhecimento excepcional do ecossistema amazónico.
